The treks are graded according
to a variety of factors like altitudes covered, length of trek,
degree of difficulty, and the number of hours of walking required
each day.
|
Easy: |
These treks are like an extended nature walk and anyone can
enjoy them. You won't be walking for more than 4-5 hours each day
and the trails don't exceed 2,000m in altitude. The treks are short
and do not require much strenuous physical exertion. The temperature
is generally pleasant. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required. |
Easy Plus: |
These treks involve walking about 5-6 hours. each day. Maximum
altitudes do not exceed 2,999 m. in Annapurna region & 3,400 m.
in the Everest region. |
Moderate: |
These treks involve walking about 6-7 hours each day. Maximum
altitudes traversed are 4,000 m. These treks are designed for people
of average fitness. A moderate program of physical preparation is
required. |
Moderate-Challenging: |
On
these treks, you will be walking at an average of 6 hours each day.
The altitude will occasionally reach above 5,000m. You have to be
in very good physical shape and there will be some really arduous
days on the trail. A strong program of physical preparation is required. |
Mountaineering: |
You will be travelling in very remote mountainous areas and
the trails sometimes reach altitudes in excess of 5,400m. The trek
will involve crossing high mountain passes and includes climbing a
"trekking peak" which is over 6,000m in height. Participants should
have basic mountaineering skills and must produce a health certificate.
Climbers should bring their own climbing equipment. |
Spring & Autumn
(Feb-May; Sept-Novr) |
The best time of the year to trek in Nepal, warm days and clear
skies make it ideal for all treks. |
Winter
(Dec-Jan) |
This season is also good but the air can be quite cold at high
altitudes, however, low-altitude trekking and Jungle Safaris can
be done. This is a very good time for those who want to avoid
crowds. |
Monsoon
(June-Aug) |
These three rainy months are characterized by clouds and humid
heat at lower altitudes therefore not suitable for trekking in
most parts of Nepal. However this is the best time of the year
to visit Tibet as it is warm and also the rain-shadow regions
north of the Himalaya - like Mustang . These regions are out of
reach of the rain clouds because of the massive Himalayan barrier,
and thus they are largely unaffected by the monsoon. |
