Tour
deep jungle on the back of an elephant for a taste of Nepal's wild side.
DURATION:
3 DAYS
DEPARTS FROM KATHMANDU OR CAN JOIN FROM POKHARA
The
thick jungles of the Royal Chitwan National Park (area 932 sq km) shelter
a wide variety of mammals, reptiles and birds. Endangered beasts such
as the one-horned rhino and the Royal Bengal tiger prowl through the foliage.
Gharial crocodiles lurk in the waters of the rivers that course through
here. And hundreds of species of birds criss-cross the skies overhead.
Our elephant-back safari takes you through this wildlife haven for a close
encounter with the denizens of the jungle in their natural habitat. Bird
watchers can look forward to an exciting outing. Nepal is home to more
than 800 species of birds, or nearly as many species as found in the whole
of North America. The excursions can be conducted on elephant-back or
four-wheel drive jeeps. There are trained naturalists to guide and inform
you. Side trips to surrounding villages offer a fascinating insight into
the culture and lifestyle of the local Tharu people.
